Treasury refused permission on Brennanstown Road site: Treasury Holdings has been refused planning permission by Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council for a residential development on a 7.9-acre site off the Brennanstown Road in Cabinteely, Dublin 18. The developer was looking to build 173 apartments, duplexes and houses on the site which is between Foxrock and Cabinteely.

It would have involved demolishing Knockanree House to the west of the site and building 107 apartments and 12 duplexes units in three blocks with a maximum height of eight storeys.

It was also proposing 48 three-bedroom houses, four five-bedroom detached houses and two four-bedroom detached houses.

The local authority ruled against the development, saying it would be premature pending the adoption of a local area plan for the Cherrywood-Rathmichael area. It said the proposed development would contravene the zoning of the site which is "to provide for new residential communities in accordance with approved local area plans". It said the development would endanger public safety "given the substandard condition of Brennanstown Road which has inadequate pedestrian facilities and the location where it is proposed to provide vehicular access to the site in close proximity to an acute bend in the road".

Another reason given was that the apartment blocks would affect the visual and residential amenities of the area "by reason of their proximity to Brennanstown Road, their contextual setting and unsympathetic design."

Castlethorn increases density at Pelletstown scheme

Castlethorn Construction has been given the go-ahead by Dublin City Council for more residential units at its scheme at Pelletstown, Ashtown, in Dublin 15.

Bounded by phase one of the development to the north, phase two to the west and undeveloped land to the south, the developer has been granted permission for 47 residential units in six blocks.

The units will be a mix of duplexes and houses. Castlethorn received planning approval in April to build just over 350 new residential units there. The €120 million scheme is part of a major development which will eventually see 1,400 homes developed at Pelletstown. The site was originally greenbelt land but was rezoned for commercial and residential use in 1998.
