Last year’s Number One slips to fourth, but it’s still one of the very few SUVs or crossovers that we actually really like, or would seriously consider buying.

Bigger and more bluff than its sportier 3008 cousin it’s so cavernous inside, and can seat seven as standard, that it seems almost conspicuously good value, especially against competition direct and indirect such as the Skoda Kodiaq and Hyundai Santa Fe.

The cabin is the Peugeot 5008's high point; still interesting to look at, well made, and with rather groovy tweed-effect instead of predictable wood or fingerprint-happy "piano black".
