53: Porsche 718 Boxster & Cayman - all the sports car you could ever possibly need

Top cars for 2020: For the purists, the GT4 version bring back flat-six power and sound, so at least there’s an option

Porsche's entry-level sports cars are all the sports car you could ever possiblyneed and are (whisper it) actually slightlybetter to drive than the gold-standard 911. Certainly, the Boxster/Cayman twins were among the first cars to offer electric power steering that has genuine feel and feedback, in the manner of an old hydraulic system.

Controversy still swirls over the flat-four turbo engine and is noise (or lack thereof) but we think it's actually rather cool - like a cross between an old Beetle and a 1990s Subaru rally car.

For the purists, the GT4 version bring back flat-six power and sound, so at least there’s an option. GTS versions are, without question, the best to drive and are as good on road, at sane speeds, as they are on track, at insane ones. Pricey, though. This is one of the few circumstances where we actually prefer the convertible version (the Boxster) to the coupe (the Cayman).

Best model: 718 Boxster GTS for €112,334.
