A 22-year-old woman who sustained severe arm and facial injuries after a school bus in which she was a front-seat passenger crashed into a tree five years ago, was awarded €31,400 in settlement for compensation and damages at the Circuit Court in Monaghan yesterday.
The claim was brought by Anne Shevlin, Drumakill, Castleblayney, Co Monaghan, against a roadside landowner, Donal Duffy, Concra, Castleblayney, and co-respondents, Monaghan County Council.
The court heard the student was travelling in the school transport vehicle on February 20th, 2002, when it crashed into a tree.
She was trapped inside and eventually cut free by the emergency services.
Ms Shevlin, who was one of seven passengers in the bus at the time, was taken to hospital with arm and facial injuries.
She was also severely traumatised by the occurrence, counsel said.
