The trial of seven British soldiers accused of the murder of an Iraqi civilian is due to start today

The group of serving or former members of the 3rd Battalion, the Parachute Regiment, was due to appear at a military court in Colchester, Essex.

Cpl Scott Evans (32), Pte Billy Nerney (24), Pte Samuel May (25), Pte Morne Vosloo (26), and former Ptes Daniel Harding (25), Roberto Di-Gregorio (24) and Scott Jackson (26) are accused of murder and violent disorder.

The seven men were charged following the the death of Nadhem Abdullah on May 11th, 2003, in a roadside incident in Al U'Zayra.

Lawyers estimate that the court martial will last for more than two months.
