London - Fresh calls were made yesterday for the sacking of embattled Europe Minister Mr Keith Vaz. This followed the news that a new inquiry into allegations against him had been launched.
Parliamentary standards commissioner Ms Elizabeth Filkin is investigating a payment of almost £1,200 made to a company set up by Mr Vaz by a charity linked to the billionaire Hinduja brothers. Downing Street restated the Prime Minister, Mr Tony Blair's full confidence in the Minister, but shadow foreign secretary Mr Francis Maude called on Mr Blair to remove Mr Vaz from the British team attending an EU summit in Stockholm this weekend.
