London - The Archbishop of Canterbury has called on Christians in Africa to confront the tragedy of AIDS and HIV rather than ignore the disease.

Dr George Carey said the Anglican Church was not in any way immune to the effects of the virus, particularly when many of those who have contracted HIV were Christian. The plea was being made in a sermon during the archbishop's visit to Namibia.
