The Congolese government said it had arrested 15 men and put its border police on high alert after attacks on four military bases and two television stations in the capital Kinshasa today.
"It was an attack by armed military personnel seeking to undermine the internal security of the Congolese state," Interior Minister Mr Theophile Mbemba Fundu told a news conference.
"They were unidentified assailants, but we think with certain internal accomplices," he said.
Around 15 bare-chested men, some of them wounded, were paraded in front of reporters at the news conference along with an arms cache including around 100 AK-47s and a variety of grenades and rocket launchers.
