The motions to merge the under-21 and minor grade into a new under-19 grade were rejected at Special Congress in Croke Park this afternoon.

The motions, which came before congress following recommendations from the GAA's Task Force on Player Burn Out, failed to gain the support of delegates who voted to maintain the status quo.

Requiring only a simple majority, as they were proposed as temporary measures, the motions were nevertheless overwhelmingly rejected and no new under-19 grade will be introduced for the 2009 and 2010 championships as had been mooted.

Only 58 votes were garnered in favour of the proposals with 115 delegates opposed to the changes.
