A burnt-out car was discovered in the early hours of this morning in Cork city following a shooting incident.

Gardaí are investigating the shooting which took place along St Michael’s Drive in the Mahon area at about 1.50am. A gun was fired from a passing car at a parked silver Honda civic while two men walked along the nearby pavement. The parked car was empty at the time.

The car which fired the shots quickly fled the scene and was later discovered burnt-out at the Marina in Cork city.

There are no reports of injuries and both scenes are being preserved by gardaí pending a technical examination.
