A 16-year-old boy has been released without charge after being arrested in connection with a fatal collision in Co Wexford on January 12th.

James Brennan (81) died at the scene when a stolen Volvo crashed into his car at about 10.30pm near Ferns, Co Wexford.

A middle-aged woman, who was a passenger in Mr Brennan’s car, was also injured.

The stolen Volvo S60 has been taken in a robbery in Wicklow town and was abandoned by the occupants after the crash because it was so badly damaged.

They fled from the scene on foot and are believed to have stolen a second car, a red Volkswagen Passat, from a nearby farmyard.

The boy had been arrested on Friday and detained under the provisions of section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984.
