A 33-year-old man has gone on trial accused of murdering his former partner and mother of their two children.
Vesel Jahiri, of Louth village, Dundalk, but originally from Kosovo, has pleaded not guilty to murdering Anna Finnegan at Allendale Glen, Clonsilla, Dublin 15, on September 21st, 2012. He has also pleaded not guilty to assault causing harm to Anna Finnegan’s brother, Karl, on the same date.
Opening the case at the Central Criminal Court yesterday, counsel for the DPP Patrick Marrinan SC, told the jury that Anna Finnegan was a 25-year-old mother and partner of the accused for nearly 10 years.
Approximately one month before her death their relationship had “deteriorated quite dramatically”, said counsel.
He said Anna Finnegan lived at the address in Clonsilla and had come into contact with social services to help her with the predicament of access to her children.
“Access had become much more than a thorny subject,” said counsel. The trial is expected to last three weeks and up to 100 witnesses could be called.
The trial continues today.
