An explosive device found in west Dublin this evening has been made safe by the Army.
The Explosive Ordnance Disposal Team were called to a house near the Mourne Road area of Drimnagh by the Garda after a suspect device was discovered.
They arrived at the scene at 5.20pm. A cordon and traffic restrictions had been put in place for public safety, with a number of nearby houses evacuated.
The device was then rendered safe at the scene without the need for a controlled explosion. The area was declared safe at 5.55pm.
The component parts of the device were taken to a safe military location for further technical examination.
An Army spokesman confirmed the device was viable with potential to cause serious damage or injury.
Gardaí are investigating the incident.
