Four-year-old boy killed in Co Mayo farm incident

A four-year-old boy has been killed in an agricultural accident in Co Mayo.

The fatal incident occurred on a farm at Ballinaboy near Belmullet at about 8.30pm on Wednesday.

Reports the child may have been struck by a farm vehicle remain unconfirmed but the scene of the accident has been sealed off overnight ahead of a full investigation.

The boy was rushed to Belmullet District Hospital but was pronounced dead. A postmortem will take place on Thursday.

As the death is classed an agricultural accident, the Health and Safety Authority will also have been contacted.
