Gardaí have recovered money taken during a cash-in-transit robbery in Tallaght, Dublin on Monday afternoon.

The cash was stained with a protective dye used to deter robberies and the exact amount recovered was not yet known, gardaí said.

Two men, one armed with a shotgun, approached a security worker as he was making a collection on the Old Bawn Road at approximately 1pm on Monday.

A third man sat in a silver Avensis car in which they made their getaway.

The car was later recovered in the nearby Allenton housing estate.

There were no injuries during the incident and no shots were discharged, gardaí confirmed.

The cash was discovered in shopping bags in the garden of a house following a search of the estate.

On Monday night, gardai carried out a search of an address and arrested and detained a man in his twenties.

He was being held at Tallaght Garda station under Section 30 of the Offences Against the State Act last night.
