Gardaí have seized heroin worth an estimated €750,000.

The haul was uncovered after officers searched a car in Castlebellingham, Co Louth, last Monday morning. The seizure is part of a sustained operation into the illegal sale and supply of controlled narcotics in the Leinster area.

Members from the Garda National Drugs Unit and Organised Crime Unit took part in the raid, which gardaí said was aimed at disrupting and dismantling criminal networks.

A man aged 38 was arrested at scene and is being detained at Dundalk Garda station under section 2 of the Criminal Justice (Drug Trafficking) Act, 1996.
