Revenue officers at Dublin Airport seized 18,000 cigarettes on Tuesday.

The officers, assisted by detector dog Frankie, uncovered more than 18,000 contraband “NZ” cigarettes in the checked-in luggage of a 42-year-old Estonian man.

The smuggled cigarettes, with an estimated retail value in the region of €9,700, would have represented a loss to the exchequer of about €7,700.

The man was arrested and brought before Dublin District Court this afternoon, where Judge Miriam Walsh remanded him in custody to Cloverhill prison until next Friday.
