Homes evacuated after pipe bomb found in Antrim

A number of homes were evacuated in Co Antrim last night after a viable pipe bomb was found by police in Newtownabbey.

The device was discovered under a railway bridge at Whitehouse Park following a telephone call to the PSNI around 8.50pm.

A number of nearby homes were evacuated while the device was examined by army technical officers.

They were allowed to return to their houses at around 12.45am.

The PSNI is appealing to anyone with information to contact them by calling 101, or the anonymous Crimestoppers line on 0800 555 111.
