An Irish man has suffered "grievous injuries" in an incident in Malta this morning.

The 35-year-old was hit by a car driven by a woman in her 60s, according a statement on the Facebook page of the Malta Police Force. It said the incident happened at the Strand, Sliema at 9.30am local time.

“The Police went immediately on site where preliminary investigation showed that a 35-year-old Irish man, who resides in Sliema, was hit by a Volkswagen Golf driven by a 67 year old woman, who resides in Sliema,” the statement added.

“An ambulance was called on site to take the man to Mater Dei hospital for further treatment. Later he was certified as suffering from grievous injuries.”
