A 23-year-old man has died in Galway after the car he was driving hit a wall in the early hours of Wednesday morning.

The deceased man was the sole occupant of the vehicle when the crash occurred at Shannongrove, Banagher just after midnight.

He was pronounced dead at the scene and his body was taken to Portiuncula Hospital in Ballinasloe.

The road has now been sealed off for a technical examination, and gardaí have appealed for anyone who may have witnessed the incident to contact Portumna Garda Station at 090 9741004, the Garda Confidential Telephone Line on 1800 666 111 or any Garda station.
