Man faces multiple rape charges in Australia

A Melbourne man will stand trial next year on multiple rape charges, a court heard on Tuesday.

Adrian Ernest Bayley (41) made a brief appearance in Victoria County Court via videolink from the Melbourne Assessment Prison.

Prosecutor Gavin Silbert SC said Bayley was facing a total of 14 charges, including rape, false imprisonment, assault, intentionally causing injury and making a threat to kill.

Police allege he carried out the offences in the Melbourne suburbs of Elwood and Balaclava between 2000 and 2012.

Bayley pleaded not guilty to all charges and was committed to stand trial on May 26th 2014. The media is restricted on reporting any further details of the case.
