A man was due to appear in court this afternoon to be charged with the murder of a 26-year-old Latvian national whose body was found in Co Laois over the weekend.

The man, a Lithuanian national is in his early thirties, was one of two men arrested and questioned in connection with the murder. He is due to be charged at Tullamore District Court.

The second man, in his mid forties, has been released without charge and a file is due to be sent to the Director of Public Prosecutions.

The victim's body was discovered with suspected stab wounds at a house on Spa Street in Portarlington at about 5pm on Saturday.

It is understood the deceased lived in the house with one of the men who were questioned.
