Suspected human remains were found near St James’s Hospital in Dublin on Wednesday afternoon.
The remains were discovered when the roots of a tree were dug up near Grand Canal view behind the hospital at around 3pm.
Gardaí from Kilmainham Garda station preserved the scene and a forensic anthropologist will examine the remains on Thursday morning.
A Garda spokesman said it is not yet known if the remains are human or animal or if they are historic.
