Teenager remanded over serious Co Tipperary assault

Victim (66) in critical condition in hospital with severe head injuries

A Co Tipperary teenager has been remanded in custody after he was charged with an assault which has left a pensioner fighting for his life in hospital.

Graham Meagher (18) appeared before a special sitting of Cashel District Court yesterdaywhere he was charged with assault causing harm to PJ Kelly (66) at Kilcaroon, Clogheen, Co Tipperary on June 12th.

Insp Paul O’Driscoll told the court gardaí were seeking a remand in custody for Mr Meagher whose address was given as Kilcaroon, Clogheen, Co Tipperary.

Mr Meagher, who made no reply to the charge, made no application for bail and Judge Terence Finn remanded him in custody to appear again at Cashel District Court on Wednesday.

Mr Kelly, who is originally from Ballinasloe in Co Galway but has been living near Ballyporeen in Co Tipperary for almost 20 years, remains in a critical condition at Cork University Hospital with serious head injuries.
