Three men are to appear in court tomorrow charged in connection with a post office robbery in Co Donegal.

The three men were arrested yesterday after staff at the post office in Manorcunningham were threatened on the premises at about 10.15am armed with a knife, a hammer and a sledge hammer or hatchet.

Gardaí said significant damage was done to the property before the men made off with cash in the direction of Newtowncunningham in a van.

The vehicle was stopped by Gardaí close to the border at Killea village, and the three men in their 20s and 30s were arrested.

Two were detained at Letterkenny Garda station and one in Buncrana Garda station under section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984. The van was seized and forensically examined.

They will appear at Letterkenny District Court at 10.30am tomorrow.
