Two arrested in Portugal over €187,000 drugs seizure in Cork

Pair are detained under European arrest warrant in relation to 2016 operation

Two people have been arrested in Portugal in relation to the seizure of €187,000 worth of drugs in Co Cork in 2016.

The two, a man in his 30s and a woman in her 20s, were detained in Lisbon on Wednesday on foot of a European arrest warrant.

The arrests were in relation to a Garda search operation at a house in Dunmanway on January 18th, 2016, during which a growhouse containing €187,000 worth of cannabis herb and cannabis plants was found.

The drugs were seized, and four men and a woman were later arrested and detained at Bandon and Bantry Garda stations

The five were subsequently released without charge. A file was prepared for the DPP.

The two arrested on Wednesday have since been brought to Bandon Garda station. They were due to appear before Bantry District Court at 2pm on Thursday.
