Gardaí arrested two men on Saturday after a pistol and ammunition were recovered in a house in Co Meath.

The two men (aged 19 and 31) were arrested after gardaí searched a house at Readstown, Summerhill, Co Meath, following reports of shots being fired in the area on Friday.

The search operation was undertaken by gardaí in Trim, local detectives and the Garda Regional Support Unit on Saturday afternoon. A pistol, live ammunition and other items were recovered.

Both men are being detained at Trim Garda Station under Section 30, Offences Against the State Act 1939.

Gardaí say investigations are ongoing.
