A woman in her 30s has been shot dead at a house in north Dublin this evening.
The victim is believed to have been shot in the chest at around 8.40pm at a house on Collins Place, Finglas.
Gardaí and paramedics rushed to the scene after the alarm was raised and on arrival discovered the seriously injured woman.
She was given emergency medical treatment by paramedics before being taken by ambulance to the Mater hospital, where she died.
The area has been sealed-off and was expected to remain closed-off overnight and through Sunday pending a technical examination.
The investigation into the fatal shooting is being carried out by detectives at Finglas Garda station.
They began door-to-door inquiries in the area on Saturday night.
Garda Headquarters, Phoenix Park, Dublin issued a brief statement confirming the shooting had taken place and urging anyone with information to come forward.
The exact circumstances of the shooting were not clear late on Saturday night.
While the Finglas area has witnessed an increase in gang attacks in recent months, including some involving firearms, it was not immediately clear if the shooting was linked to any recent violent attacks in the area.
