Dublin Port has reported that a record 14 million tonnes passed through its quays during the first half of the year in what is a 6.5 per cent rise on last year.

Turnover also soared, climbing 4 per cent to €31.8 million.

The company's annual report for 2005 was also published, revealing throughput of 26.9 million tonnes. This represents a 6.6 per cent growth on 2004.

Turnover grew to €61.5 million, 3.8 per cent higher than the year before.

Dublin Port cited the economic boom and more efficient operations as key factors in achieving the record figures.
