If you're looking for a widely recognised qualification in computer skills then it may be worth considering the European Computer Driving Licence (ECDL). This evaluates and certifies computer skills according to a single, pan-European standard.
Getting the licence requires proof of competence in seven core computer skills. These include word processing, spread sheets and managing files. Students can take the modules one at a time. There are a large number of approved training centres around the country and full details are available from (01) 667 3153 or on info@ics.ie or from website address www.ecdl.ie
If this is the year to give your home a major DIY makeover then one of the one-day courses offered by the Decorative Arts Centre in Dublin's Great Strand Street (beside the Jervis Shopping Centre) might be the place to start. The courses begin this Saturday and run between 10.30 a.m. and 5.30 p.m. The cost for a day course is £65 including lunch, with concessions for students, senior citizens and those on welfare.
Saturday's topic is paint effects and this is followed on February 12th by furniture painting. For those with some knowledge of paint effects there are advanced courses on February 26th and March 25th. For information or a brochure contact Eileen or Ciara at (01) 872 9697.
