Gap is the British organisation which looks after young people wishing to take a year out between second- and third-level education - or later. Nepal, Pakistan, Mexico and Australia are popular destinations. So is Dublin's Sean McDermott Street, where an Australian GAP student found herself "exchanging poor witticisms with men whose Irish wit is as dry as the day". GAP staff will be in Alexandra College, Dublin, tomorrow recruiting volunteers and spreading the word about GAP, which operates in 34 countries. Contact www.gap.org.uk or Michael Smoughton at (0044) 118 956 2914.
