Eight people were killed and 12 seriously injured today when a truck and passenger train collided in the Australian state of Victoria.
Another 40 passengers suffered minor injuries in the collision near the rural town of Swan Hill in northwest Victoria, police said.
"We have had a semi-trailer truck hit a passenger train. The train has derailed," a spokeswoman said.
Emergency officials said the injured were being treated and assessed at the scene of the crash, which was reportedly at a level railroad crossing.
