There have been two pipe bomb attacks and a shot was fired in separate incidents in the North early this morning and overnight.

The RUC says an "improvised explosive device consisting of two metal pipes, nails and a powerful firework" was left outside a house in Donard Gardens, Lurgan in Co Armagh.

It exploded at around 1 a.m. causing blast damage to the front door.

The three occupants - a man, a woman and an 18-year-old youth - were unhurt.

Shortly after 1 a.m. a pipe bomb thrown at a house in George's Street in Derry partly exploded causing minor damage.

A British army bomb expert attended the scene and made the device safe. The occupants were uninjured.

In Larne in Co Antrim a shot was fired through the kitchen window of a house. Three members of the family living in the house were in other rooms and were not injured.
