'Farmers Journal' editor to retire early next year

Irish Farmers Journal editor Matt Dempsey has announced his intention to retire from the position early next year

Irish Farmers Journal editor Matt Dempsey has announced his intention to retire from the position early next year. He is just one of three men to have held the position in the newspaper’s 64-year history.

He succeeded Paddy O’Keeffe as editor in 1988. O’Keeffe, in turn, replaced Stephen Cullinane in 1951. The weekly farming newspaper was established in 1948.

Yesterday’s edition carried an advertisement seeking Dempsey’s successor.
