DUBLIN SOUTH:THE FIANNA Fáil Dublin South campaign might be "difficult" but there was a "good chance" of winning a seat, Fianna Fáil Minister Pat Carey said at the party's selection convention in Goatstown last night.
Senator Maria Corrigan stood unopposed to represent Fianna Fáil in the constituency. She battled Fine Gael TD Alan Shatter for the last seat in the 2007 election when the party ran three candidates in the five-seat constituency.
Fianna Fáil formerly held two seats, the late Seámus Brennan and former chief whip Tom Kitt who is standing down.
“Traditionally there was a very good organisation here. The late Seámus Brennan had a machine practically unrivalled in the country. That hasn’t gone away completely. Tom Kitt the same,” Mr Carey said.
Standing room only at last night’s meeting, despite the lack of a vote, showed that “people wanted to get involved”, Ms Corrigan said.
She will compete for a seat with fellow Senators Shane Ross, Labour senator Alex White, Green Party Minister for Energy Eamon Ryan, Alan Shatter TD and banking expert Peter Mathews for Fine Gael.
