A file has been prepared and will be sent to the Director of Public Prosecutions shortly in an investigation of the assisted suicide of a Dublin woman, Ms Rosemary Toole Gilhooley, the Dublin Coroner's Court has heard.

An American right-to-die activist, the Rev George Exoo, and an assistant are understood to have travelled to Ireland and to have been present when Ms Toole Gilhooly committed suicide.

The event occurred in a rented house in Donnybrook last January. The men returned to the United States a few days afterwards.

Mr Exoo has denied assisting in the suicide, but has admitted that he was present when the woman ended her life.

Ms Toole Gilhooley paid $2,500 for Mr Exoo and his assistant to cover the cost of hotels, flights and other expenses, he said.

Ms Toole Gilhooley, who was separated and in her 40s, suffered from depression, but did not have any physical terminal illness at the time of her death.

Mr Exoo could face extradition to Ireland in relation to the incident.

The case has been adjourned and will come before the Dublin Coroner's Court again on July 31st.
