Five steps to real food

 Buy organic food where possible

Buy organic food where possible. Check that it is certified by an approved body such as the Organic Trust, IOFGA or Demeters Standards. Otherwise try to buy direct from the farm. Get a listing from the Irish Farmers and Growers Association to try to find the nearest farm in your area.

Buy locally-grown, seasonal fruit and vegetables. Produce that has travelled from abroad is not as fresh as that available nearby. This also supports Irish products. Go to farmers markets such as the St Andrew's Co-op on Pearse Street or the Temple Bar Market, in Meeting House Square, both on Saturdays.

Grow your own. Herbs, fruits and vegetables can be grown on a small plot, even a window box. Kitchen waste that is biodegradable can be composted.

If you are concerned about GM foods, try to avoid them. Information is available from groups such as Genetic Concern.

Wash all fruits and vegetables which are not organic. If in doubt, peel. Always try to source your meat. And buy free-range.
