FOUR young Limerick men were further remanded in custody for five days to St Patrick's Institute following an incident in which a trainee garda, Mr John Keating (21), was seriously injured when he was knocked down by a stolen car six days ago.

Mr David Heighton (19), Crecora Avenue, Ballinacurra Weston, was charged with unlawfully using a motor vehicle without the consent of the owner. He was further charged with driving without insurance cover or having a driving licence.

Shane Power (17), Hyde Avenue, Prospect, Robert Kerley (17), Ballinacurra Weston, and a youth who cannot be named were charged with causing criminal damage to a Garda patrol car at Raheen Square on March 16th.

Judge Michael Reilly turned down an application to have the defendants remanded to Limerick jail.
