A 71-year-old man is being treated for shock today after a gun was fired at him during a robbery of his home in east Belfast.

The pensioner was confronted by two men, believed to be in their 20s, in his house on Templemore Street last night. It is understood the front door had been kicked in.

The raiders, one of whom was armed with a handgun, made their way into the man's bedroom, where they threatened him.

They fired the gun at their victim. Police said the round was a blank.

The men then fled the house empty-handed.
