An Army bomb disposal team has rendered safe a historic yet viable Mills type grenade in the Pheonix Park, Dublin.
The Defence Forces deployed the Army Bomb Disposal Team in response to a request from An Garda Síochána after a suspect object was found protruding from the grass by members of the public.
A cordon was put in place for public safety. The team arrived on scene at 3.30pm and safely moved the grenade to an open area where it was rendered safe by a controlled explosion.
The scene was declared safe at 4.10 pm.

The type of grenade is early twentieth century in origin and was uses during the War of Independence, the Civil War and the two World Wars.
