A murder investigation has been launched in the North after a woman died of stab wounds.

PNSI detectives were called to investigate an incident at the Sea Coast Road area of Limavady, Co Derry.

A man in his 50s was taken to hospital for treatment.

Detective Chief Inspector John Cardwell said: "We received a report, just after 8:20 pm, that a woman had been stabbed at a property in the Sea Coast Road area of Limavady.

"Officers attended along with colleagues from the Northern Ireland Ambulance Service. Sadly, a woman was pronounced dead at the scene."
