A large fire on Basin Street, near the Guinness Storehouse, led to units from several fire stations being called out to control the blaze.

Officials say the fire has since been extinguished.

A representative for Tara Street station said that contrary to earlier reports the fire had not broken out in the Guinness Storehouse itself, but in a derelict furniture factory nearby.

The scene has been handed over to An Garda Síochána for examination.

Dublin city centre had earlier been affected as smoke from the fire reached as far down as D’Olier Street.
