A 67-year-old woman died on Wednesday following a house fire in Co Tipperary.

The alarm was raised at approximately 2.30pm after the fire broke out at a property in Kilregane, Lorrha, Co Tipperary.

The fire brigade, an ambulance and gardaí all attended the scene but were unsuccessful in attempts to rescue the woman.

There was nobody else in the property at the time of the fire and the woman was pronounced dead at the scene.

Garda forensic teams and the fire brigade carried out a preliminary forensic examination of the house, but a spokesman for the Garda said the matter was not being treated as suspicious at this time.

The woman’s body was taken to the Limerick morgue at the University Hospital Limerick and a post-mortem is due to take place today.
