The Irishman held hostage in Iran, Mr Aidan Leahy, returned to Dublin today where he met with officials from the Iranian embassy and the Department of Foreign Affairs to thank them for their work in helping to secure his release.
A spokeswoman for the Iranian embassy in Dublin said Mr Leahy met with the ambassador, His Excellency Mr Seyed Hossein Mirfakhar and officials this afternoon. Mr Leahy discussed his capture and his experience while he was held hostage, she said.
Mr Leahy and two German men also taken hostage were freed just over a week ago. They were captured while cycling through the south-east of the country and were held hostage for almost four weeks.
Mr Leahy, a mechanical engineer based in London, spent last week resting at his family home outside the city.
It is reported that the Iranian authorities are to have arrested a number of men suspected of involvement in the kidnapping.
