Gardaí in Kerry are investigating an assault on a young man in what they believe is the result of a feud between two families. Garda liaison officers have been appointed to stop escalation of the feud.

The 23-year-old man is recovering in Tralee General Hospital with injuries to his head, legs, hands and upper body after being beaten by a hurley stick on Thursday morning.

A man from south Kerry was arrested on Thursday. He was later released, and a file is to be sent to the DPP. Gardaí believe the incident relates to one in Castleisland the previous night. Witnesses should contact gardaí at 066-7122022.
