With only a month of the summer left, Bus Éireann still hasn't made copies of the summer provincial bus timetable available to the public, although it was due in May or June.

"They were supposed to be here today, but there's no sign of them," an employee of the Bus Éireann information and ticket sales desk in the Dublin Tourism office iSuffolk Street said yesterday.

People asking for provincial bus times have been read to from the timetable that Bord Fáilte has behind its Bus Éireann information desk.

A Dublin Tourism Office representative, Ms Ciara Sugrue, said: "We've heard a few sighs of frustration. If people are buying tickets to go to Galway or somewhere, the obvious question is going to be about the bus times for the return journey. You get visitors looking at staff disbelievingly."

Mr Cyril McIntyre of the Bus Éireann press office said yesterday the timetable had been printed and was being distributed "at the minute". An advertisement would appear in tomorrow's national newspapers saying it was available, he added.

Mr McIntyre played down the need for the timetable, arguing that people, including tourists, tended to use "a limited range of key routes".
