Lebanese Prime Minister Fouad Siniora said today he would root out terrorism after fighting between the Lebanese army and Islamist militants in north Lebanon this week.
Referring to Fatah al-Islam, the al-Qaeda-inspired group which troops have been fighting in north Lebanon, this week, he said the army had been the victim of a "terrorist organisation".
At least 32 soldiers have been killed in the fighting, while 22 militants have been killed.
"We will not surrender to terrorism," Mr Siniora said in a televised speech.

Residents of the Nahr al-Bared Palestinian refugee camp, where the militant group is based, say dozens of civilians have also been killed.
The fighting died down on Tuesday, and a fragile truce continued to hold today.
