A 26-year-old man charged with the false imprisonment and sexual assault of a woman in the Dublin Mountains last November was further remanded in custody at Tralee District Court yesterday.
The man, who cannot be named for legal reasons, has also been charged with assaulting the woman.
Yesterday Garda Insp James O'Connor said his application was for further remand in custody for two weeks for preparation of the book of evidence.
Judge James O'Connor granted the application and extended time for the preparation of the book of evidence. He remanded the accused in custody to appear again at Tralee District Court on February 7th next. At that stage, if the book of evidence was not served, there may be grounds for making a further application, he said.
The man has been charged with sexual assault of the woman at Military Road, Powerscourt Mountain, Enniskerry, Co Wicklow. He is also charged with false imprisonment "at locations in the counties of Wicklow and Dublin," as well as assault at Glasamucky, again on November 19th last.
He was arrested in Kerry on November 23rd last and brought before a sitting of Castleisland District Court. The court heard the man had been sleeping rough in his car for some time and had no permanent address.
He is alleged to have met the woman at Harcourt Street, Dublin, and taken her in his car to the Dublin Mountains.
He is also said to have used a cable to tie her hands and to have driven her around the area for five hours.
