Man admits rape attempt

A man is to be sentenced on July 23rd for attempting to rape a woman two years ago.

A man is to be sentenced on July 23rd for attempting to rape a woman two years ago.

Thomas Hickey (26), Corrib Park, Galway, pleaded guilty in the Central Criminal Court to the offence, which was committed against a 20-year-old woman on March 4th, 1996.

Hickey was remanded on bail pending the sentence hearing to allow doctors to compile a psychiatric report on him.

Earlier, a jury had been sworn in for a trial when Hickey pleaded not guilty to charges of rape, anal rape and sexual assault of the woman. Before the trial opened he admitted the substitute charge.
