A man (34) died in a fire in Mallow, Co. Cork, last night.
The fire broke out in an apartment at The Towers, Fairgreen, at around 11.45 pm. Locals managed to rescue a woman from the apartment but were unable to get back inside due to dense smoke.
The man's body was found inside the apartment, and he was pronounced dead at the scene.
The woman, aged in her forties, was treated for smoke inhalation.
Gardaí will examine the fire scene this morning.
